Shoulder Pain
What causes shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain can be due to many different causes, from injury and illness to muscle imbalances or weakness. These pains can be mild or very severe, and are usually a sign that the shoulder needs attention.
- Overuse injuries: These occur when the shoulder joint is repeatedly used, such as through sports or work activities, and can cause inflammation and pain.
- Strains or sprains: These occur when the muscles or ligaments in the shoulder are stretched or torn, causing pain and discomfort.
- Arthritis: This is a group of conditions that cause inflammation and pain in the joints, including the shoulder joint.
- Frozen shoulder: This condition causes the shoulder joint to become stiff and painful, often occurring after an injury or surgery.
- Rotator cuff injuries: These injuries affect the muscles and tendons that help move and stabilize the shoulder joint, causing pain.
- Pinched nerves: These occur when a nerve is compressed or squeezed by surrounding tissues, causing pain in the shoulder and arm.
- Fractures: Broken bones in the shoulder can also cause pain.
- Muscle imbalances: When there is a significant difference in the strength or flexibility of the muscles around a joint, it can cause imbalances that lead to pain and dysfunction. In the shoulder, muscle imbalances can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor posture, overuse of certain muscles, or inactivity.
If you experience shoulder pain, it is important to consult a health care professional to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment. In many cases, treatment may include physical therapy, medication or even surgery.

What are the symptoms of shoulder pain?
Symptoms of shoulder pain may include stiffness, soreness, local tenderness to touch, limitation of motion and referred pain (pain felt at a location other than the site of injury).
These manifestations of shoulder pain can have a variety of intensities, from mild, constant pain to sharp, stabbing pains. Shoulder pain may also be accompanied by limitation in movement, which will not allow the affected person to be able to perform everyday actions.
Shoulder pain may worsen with sudden movement, physical activity, stress and fatigue
How is shoulder pain treated?
Treatment for shoulder pain depends on the underlying cause. In some cases, treatment includes rest, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications and steroids. Surgical treatments are also available for some types of shoulder pain.

I focus on the whole body, rather than just the affected area, to address the issue and prevent reoccurrence.
My goal is to ensure our clients can return to their daily activities with less pain, improved posture and greater confidence.
